Description: This grant from the Cambridge Community Foundation's (CCF) Innovation program will fund a voluntary after-school HEART (Holistic Emergency Alternative Response Team) group at the Kennedy Longfellow school. Awarded as a result of a student's application to CCF, 5th graders who are interested in learning a range of skills that promote mental health will meet every other week under the guidance of a staff member skilled in this area. Among the topics they will explore are: identifying emotions and learning how to safely express them; developing conflict resolution skills such as Circle Processes and Non-violent communication, and exploring mindfulness techniques such as breathing and mediation. This grant will pay for art and journal supplies, media products, t shirts, yoga mats, snacks, and stipends for guest speakers.
